Hello, my name is Mr. Mahaffy, Mr. Jeffrey Mahaffy, but please call me Mr. Mahaffy. This is a story of my life, family and friends. I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy it.

Many Blessings, Mr. Mahaffy

In a small country town named Happy Town very much like the one you may live in, is a peaceful little park called Tranquility Park. Tranquility Park’s just a short distance away, down a winding dirt road leading to the outer edge of the town. Inside Tranquility Park, hidden behind many large willow trees, is a very serene little pond known to everyone as Wisdom Pond.

Lily pads and water lilies of every color cover the pond, growing up and out of the crystal-clear blue water as if they are trying to reach the great blue sky to greet the warmth of the golden sun. Around the edge of the pond are cattails swaying in the wind like friendly hands waving hello to all who came to the Wisdom Pond. The willow trees surrounding the pond seem to sing happy songs as the wind blows through them.

On one end of the pond is an old covered wooden bridge with a gravel road winding around, up and down the small hills back to town.

On the other end of the pond is a stone bridge crossed by a paved road which leads back to Happy Town also. The stone bridge also has a sidewalk which makes it safe for people to cross back and forth across the pond. No one knows by who or when the old bridges were built; they know they had always been there as a way to cross the pond. There is a never-ending cool, gentle and magical wind blowing during the spring and summer months at the pond.

Whurly saw Billy sitting at the table and was going to land on his nose but missed and flew into Billy’s mouth just as he was opening his mouth to take bite of toast. Before Billy realized what happened he closed his mouth. It got dark and Whurly was banging and bumping around in Billy’s mouth like a ball in a pinball machine. All this commotion in Billy’s mouth made him sneeze, hurling Whurly right into Billy’s glass of milk on the table.

Don’t worry, Whurly wasn’t going to drown, because at the same time Whurly landed in the glass it fell over, spilling all over the table. Flopping on the table like a fish out of water, Whurly was yelling, “HELP—HELP I’M DROWNING!”

After getting home Billy stopped in the kitchen to get some

toothpicks, went upstairs to the bathroom medicine cabinet to get some bandages, then went to his room to take care of Whurly. Billy took off his cap and looked in the mirror and couldn’t help laughing at Whurly lying all bent and twisted on his head. Being very careful, Billy picked up Whurly, laid him on his desk and carefully made the splints from the toothpicks for Whurly’s tail and wings then wrapped them in bandages.

“I knew there was something strange about that frog!” exclaimed

Timmy. “What if he can sing, Billy? What if he can talk? You’ll be able to make a lot of money with him, Billy!”

“Yeah, Billy, that’s way too cool. You’d be rich!” Raymond said with

a big cheesy grin.

“Getting a little upset with Timmy and Raymond for such a selfish

idea, Billy raised his voice, “NO, I WILL NOT MAKE A LOT OF

MONEY and NO, I’M NOT GOING TO BE RICH! Jeffery is my

friend and I’m not going to use him to make money!”

“Gee, Billy, we were just kidding. I’m sorry, Billy,” Raymond

apologized.

“Yeah, Billy, I’m sorry too,” Timmy apologized. “We were both just

playing around with you. We thought it was funny that you thought

Jeffery was singing. But then why couldn’t he sing? All your other

animal friends talk and sing. So why couldn’t Jeffery?”

 Many Blessings, Cindy & Jerry
